Italdesign is looking for an accurate, analytical, and enthusiastic engineer, who will be employed in the Exteriors Numerical Simulation area, part of the Exteriors Development department of the italian site of Italdesign. S/He will be responsible to reach the targets of the assigned field of development.



  • Perform virtual CAE analysis to support the understanding of physical phenomena and contribute proactively to the search for technical solutions;
  • Create the virtual model of the project car;
  • Analyze and evaluate the results of the calculations/simulations envisaged by the project and propose technical solutions;
  • Collection of all the information necessary to activate the construction of a virtual model as representative as possible of reality:
  • Recover the CAD data necessary for the construction of the CAE model from the databases; recover FEM data already available related to the activity in progress; retrieve from the drawings and/or bills of the technical information for the construction of the CAE model;
  • Retrieve the rules, regulations, specifications for the construction of the CAE model;
  • Creation of the virtual model, choice of modeling methodology:
  • Modeling/Pre-processing: construction of a virtual, finite element model using dedicated pre-processors; generation of the mesh of the components to be analyzed; generation of the various components joints (welds, glues, screws, etc.); assignment of properties to the various components (thicknesses, materials);
  • Outcome management: critical evaluation of the observed phenomenon, verification of the target achievement and communication of the results:
  • Processing: management of the simulation process with the use of dedicated solvers and specific tools: assignment of the boundary conditions of the load case to be analyzed (constraints, forces, speeds, etc.); submission of the calculation with dedicated and specific solvers for each analysis; submission of the calculation on specific clusters; management of the calculation process on the cluster (queues, data recovery, job restart, etc.);
  • Post-Processing Results Analysis: analysis of simulation results with the use of dedicated post-processors and specific tools. Recovery of simulation results; management of results with dedicated software/tools; collection of the most significant data for sharing the results;
  • Sharing of proposals with the Team Leader and/or Project Leader: evaluation of the plausibility of the proposal within the working group:
  • Presentation of results through the use of specific documentation and reports and proposal of any improvement solutions: preparation of reports (videos, animations, PowerPoint); presentation, discussion and sharing of one’s own business.
  • Keep up-to-date with the changes in current regulations on passive safety.


Key requirements

  • At least 3 years of previous experience in the job;
  • Excellent ability to use software/tools for the construction of finite element models (Ansa, Hypermesh);
  • Good ability to create qualitatively correct models by assigning to the components the appropriate materials and physical and geometric properties;
  • Previous experience in the use of computing cluster operating systems for processing activities;
  • Previous experience in the use of modeling techniques and reference CAE software (Nastran, PAM-Crash, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, etc.) and specific group tools (LoCo, etc.);
  • Knowledge of assembly technologies and materials technologies;
  • Knowledge of component production and assembly techniques;
  • Knowledge of international regulations, test standards (EuroNCAP, FMVSS, etc.), characteristics of the target/performance;
  • Knowledge of the physical phenomena involved in the performance and of the attention points to be monitored;
  • Good knowledge of the main characteristics and functioning of vehicle restraint systems;
  • Technical evaluation of different solutions and drafting of technical documentation;
  • Ability to respect deadlines, RASI and project targets;
  • Knowledge of legislative/homologation constraints;
  • Knowledge of the MS Office package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.), CAD viewers.

Additional Information

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Materials, Biomedical Engineering or similar
  • Language skills: Fluent knowledge of written and spoken Italian and English are required. Knowledge of German would be appreciated
